KAN KEN

Okinawa is situated in the West of China Sea and East of the Pacific Ocean.
It's located in the center of East Asia and is an important region in the point of trading. Around Okinawa about 1500km in distance, there are many cities that surround it such as Shanghai, Taipei, Seoul, and Manila. We have been trading with other countries since the 12th century and up to the 21st century and will continue to improve trade in the future even more. We affirm that the age of the Okinawan active spirit has already emerged.

What is tatami ?

Tatami gives us relaxation and happiness. We are trying to revive the goodness and use of tatami again. Tatami is a type of thick firm mat used as a flooring material in traditional Japanese styled rooms -"Washitsu". We can relax in the room “Washitsu", which has been used since Heian Period. Tatami is made of soft rush, it is called “igusa”. Tatami has various wonderful functions. The effects of Tatami are as below:
1) It smells good. The smell of igusa gives relaxation and happiness.
2) It keeps a room cool in summer and warm in winter.
3) It has abilty to clean the air in a room because the lush that it is made of absorbs carbon dioxide.
4) When we walk on the surface of tatami barefooted, we can feel healthy.
